Set Up
Overview
Recommended ages: U6 - U8, U9 - U12
Number of players: 3, 6, 9 (+ 2 Goalkeepers recommended)
Equipment: 4 cones, 4 balls
Area size: 10m x 10m + Penalty area
Time: 15 - 20 minutes
Animation
Rules
- 3 teams of 2 players. 1 player at a time to shoot. (4 shots)
- Player starts in the middle of the area
- Player must touch the cone before shot
- Winners are the team with the most goals combined
Variations: 2 touch, 1 touch, cross in the air.
Players rotate between passing positions.
Coaching Points: Four Corners
Technical
- First Touch & Ball Control
Prepare the ball with a good first touch to set up an easy finish.
Keep the ball close and in the shooting path for a quick strike.
- Correct Striking Technique
Use the inside of the foot for accuracy (placing the ball).
Use the laces for more power when needed.
Ensure a clean contact with the ball to avoid miskicks.
Physical
- Reaction Speed
Improve quick reactions to loose balls or rebounds inside the box.
Encourage players to adjust their body position quickly for a fast strike.
- Agility & Quick Footwork
Encourage fast and light footwork to set up shots quickly.
Improve the ability to adjust body positioning to finish effectively.
Tactical
- Shot Placement Over Power
Aim for the corners rather than shooting straight at the goalkeeper.
Use finesse to guide the ball rather than relying on power alone.
- Observe where the goalkeeper is before shooting.
Adjust shot selection based on the keeper’s stance and positioning.
Psychological
- Composure & Calmness
Teach players to stay relaxed and focused when finishing.
Encourage controlled breathing and confidence under pressure.
- Confidence in Finishing
Reinforce a positive mindset to believe in their ability to score.
Praise good shooting decisions, even if the shot is missed.
