Technical
Close Ball Control
Use small, controlled touches to keep the ball within reach.
Encourage players to use different parts of the foot (inside, outside, sole).
Physical
- Body Position & Balance
Low centre of gravity helps with quick changes of direction.
Slight forward lean to maintain control while accelerating.
- Change of Speed & Direction
Slow down to draw in defenders, then accelerate past them.
Use feints, step-overs, and body fakes to unbalance opponents.
Tactical
- Exploiting Space
Identify and attack open spaces before engaging a defender.
Recognize when to drive inside or stay wide based on the situation.
- Timing & Decision-Making
Teach players when to accelerate past defenders and when to slow down.
Psychological
- Awareness & Scanning
Players should look up to assess space, defenders, and passing options.
Encourage quick head movement before making a decision.
- Bravery & Courage
Driving at defenders requires fearlessness, especially in 1v1 situations.
Create an environment where mistakes are seen as learning opportunities.
