Overview
Recommended ages: U12 - U14,
Number of players: 7 - 10
Equipment: 4 cones, 3 bibs
Area size: 25m x 20m
Time: 20 minutes
Animation
Rules
- 3 players are defending the middle zone/2 gates
- A team of 3 attackers move the ball to make space between the opponents line
- When there is space, the attacking team try to play through the line to their forward players
- Forward players try to dribble through a gate. 2 defenders (closest to the ball) try to win the ball back
Coaching Points: Four Corners
Technical
- Passing Quality & Weight
Ensure passes are accurate, well-timed, and weighted correctly to penetrate defensive lines.
Use different passing techniques (driven, through ball, lofted) depending on the situation.
Physical
- Speed of Play & Combination Play
Use quick, sharp passes and one-touch play to exploit gaps in the defence.
Encourage link-up play with teammates (e.g., one-twos) to bypass opponents.
Tactical
- Exploiting Space
Identify and attack open spaces before engaging a defender.
Recognize when to drive inside or stay wide based on the situation.
- Timing & Decision-Making
Teach players when to accelerate past defenders and when to slow down.
Psychological
- Awareness & Anticipation
Develop players' ability to read the game and anticipate movements of teammates and opponents.
Encourage constant scanning to recognize when and where to break the line effectively.
